Scramble crossing coming in June
Share Scramble crossing coming in June on Facebook Share Scramble crossing coming in June on Twitter Share Scramble crossing coming in June on Linkedin Email Scramble crossing coming in June linkWe are pleased to announce the intersection at Centennial Street and Lakeshore Drive is changing to a pedestrian scramble crossing to improve safety. Cars turning at intersections is one of the main causes of pedestrian collisions. Scramble intersections cut these pedestrian collisions in half. In a scramble intersection, pedestrians and vehicles are never in the intersection at the same time. These intersections work very well in other high volume tourist areas like Canmore and Banff.
Any change takes some time to get used to. Please show kindness and patience while everybody learns to scramble.
How do they work?
- When all vehicles have a red, pedestrians can cross in any direction, including diagonally
- During the all-red signal, vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, buses and bikes, must stop
- Drivers: Do not turn on a red on any corner
- Pedestrians cross-all-ways phase typically activates every third signal rotation
When?
- Construction begins the week of June 9, 2025
- We hope to have it completed by June 13, 2025
