Pogadl Park

Pogadl Park phase 3 construction is underway, with a new end date of July 2024 for phase 3. We hope to open the campground and tournament house in the summer of 2024.

How did the Town get the land?

• The Town acquired land to develop the 80-acre sport and recreation park:
• In 2016, members of the Pogadl family generously donated 20 acres of land to the Town of Sylvan Lake. They made the donation in the name of Ed and Glenda Pogadl for the purpose of constructing a sports and recreation park
• The Town purchased 54 more acres of land (at $20,000 per acre) and received 6 acres as a Municipal Reserve contribution. A 2016 land appraisal identified the market value for the lands at $20,000 per acre

Pogadl Park is becoming our hub for outdoor activities.

• The 2013-2017 Council Strategic Priorities identified the need to find a location for more baseball diamonds
• The 2018-2021 Council Strategic Plan made Pogadl Park a priority, "the complete design, and construction of Pogadl Park, Phase 1, including detailed design, Outline Plan, campgrounds, ball diamonds, soccer fields, washrooms, and parking lot."
• The baseball diamonds at Four Seasons Park were constructed in the mid 1980s. The park can’t expand because being close to a main road creates safety concerns

• The 2019 Capital Budget included funding for phase one

Public engagement
We talked to the public, including user groups, and Sylvan Lakers in general about their needs and wants. Public engagement opportunities included:

• Met with local user groups
• Hosted concept design workshops
• Delivered an online survey to collect feedback
• Hosted an open house and free BBQ to showcase ideas and to allow the public to share their thoughts
• Talked with the executive of the Sylvan Lake Spray Park Committee

• After talking to the public and the Spray Park Committee, the Town developed a design concept to meet our community's needs

Pogadl Park is our flagship project. It could not be completed in one construction season and was split into many phases. Planned budgets are estimates.

Capital Budget

The capital budget includes all the expenses needed to build everything in Pogadl Park. Keep in mind that the Gulls' Stadium was built and paid for by The Gulls.
