The Town of Sylvan Lake has three different projects taking place in the southwest area of the community. By working on three projects at the same time, it allows work to be done more efficiently, will minimize the duration of the disturbance to the area, will allow for a better end use and quality of work and, ultimately, save money.

These projects include:

  1. Watermain extension from Pogadl Park to Broadway Rise
  2. Paving of Memorial Trail from 60 Street to Pogadl Park
  3. Sanitary trunk main extension from Beacon Hill to south annexed land

Watermain extension from Pogadl Park to Broadway Rise

The watermain will run along the south side of Memorial Trail. It will tie into exiting water stubs located at:

  • A stub located near the existing transfer station south of Sixty West
  • A stub located south of Lakeway Boulevard
  • A hydrant located at the south end of Broadway Rise

Installation will be completed in two methods:

  • Sections through pipeline rights-of-ways and wetlands will be directionally drilled
  • Sections in open spaces will be done by open cut excavation

All this work will be done in such a way to minimize impacts to the existing landscapes and trees. Once completed, this watermain will provide the following:

  • Improved water service for the existing and future southwest area of Sylvan Lake
  • A more secure and reliable water network
  • Allow for future development west of 60 Street and south of Memorial Trail to continue to proceed without concern

This work is scheduled to begin during the week of July 13, 2026 and will continue until completed in the fall of 2026. Work will begin east of 60 Street with work west of 60 Street beginning once the Sylvan Lake Gulls baseball season and activities have been completed.

This project also contributes to our Sustainable Water Project.

BUDGET - $2,260,130

  • Funded by the Utility Reserve and the Water Offsite Levy Reserve

Paving of Memorial Trail from 60 Street to Pogadl Park

This roadway is currently a gravel road. Over the summer season it creates considerable dust when used, washboards out often (corduroy road), and is a challenge to use when busy. During the entire year, maintenance of this roadway takes extra effort due to it being gravel. We’ll be performing the following upgrades in the fall of 2026:

  • Upgrading the base structure as needed
  • Widening the roadway as needed to allow for 2-way traffic with a shoulder
  • Paving the roadway from 60 St to the west access into Pogadl Park

As part of the project, we’ll be investigating to see if we can adjust the west leg of the 60 St & Memorial Trail intersection, so it better aligns with the east leg. This project received a grant from the province through the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) for $250,000.

This work is scheduled to begin once the Sylvan Lake Gulls have completed their baseball season, and once we’ve completed construction of the watermain extension west of 60 Street. It’s currently scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026.

BUDGET - $650,000

  • Funded by the STIP grant and the Roads Offsite Reserve

Sanitary trunk main extension from Beacon Hill to south annexed land

The sanitary trunk is currently stubbed out south of the Brookstone Dr and Beacon Hill Dr intersection outside of the existing roadway. It will be extended south through the open field in Beacon Hill and south of Memorial Trail to stop at the north property line of the field southwest of 50 Street and Memorial Trail intersection.

This line will be approx. 10m deep to allow it to service the following areas:

  • Lands southwest of Memorial Trail and 50 St
  • Lands south of Memorial Trail between 50 St and Hwy 20, Meadowlands Golf Resort

This work is scheduled to begin during the week of July 13, 2026 and will continue until completed in the fall of 2026.

BUDGET - $2,870,870

  • $2,800,000 is debt funded
  • $70,870 from the Sanitary Offsite Levy Reserve
