The South Reservoir Project is designed to improve water quality in Sylvan Lake. This is part of a long-term water sustainability project for the community, as directed by the 2020 Water Master Plan. It will enhance system reliability and how treated water gets to Lakers. This work includes:
Installing baffle curtains to increase contact time repairing internal and external valves and reconfiguring the South reservoir discharge path
Improve water treatment by increasing contact time and reducing short circuiting inside
The well pump and pipe system will be decommissioned
Replacing and removing pumps and valves that have reached the endContinue reading
Replacing and removing pumps and valves that have reached the end of their life cycle
Why?
To streamline operation and reduce long term maintenance costs
Extend the life cycle of the south system
Enhancing the south system will ensure long-term stainability for future cost savings
To reduce energy usage and increase response times
When?
Multiple phases, including:
December 8 & 9, 2025: Upgrades and equipment installation
Winter 2025/26 to Spring 2026: Mechanical work in Beacon Hill, minor tie-ins, initial reservoir preparations, and upgrades to monitoring equipment
Summer to Fall 2026: Structural modifications, electrical upgrades, new piping installations, and continued reservoir improvements
Fall 2026 to Winter 2027: Final baffle installations, recirculation upgrades, pump decommissioning, reservoir cell draining and cleaning, and long-term operational switchover
How does this impact residents, and what do you need to know?
Water will not be wasted. It will be sent to the community as it was intended to be
Water service will remain active throughout the project
Construction impacts will be coordinated to minimize service disruptions
Occasional short overnight pressure reductions may occur for mechanical tie-ins
Residents may notice brief pressure fluctuations, but no extended service interruptions are expected
No changes to water quality are anticipated, and all work is conducted under strict regulatory and operational controls
Construction activity will occur on-site at the reservoir and pump stations, with minimal impact to surrounding areas
This project improves water quality and simplifies long term operations expected
The upgrades will extend the life of the system and prepare the community for long term needs
