The Solid Waste Master Plan will guide the Town's solid waste (garbage and recycling) management for short, medium, and long-term goals. The plan helps to guide Council on decision making, such as:

  • How often garbage and recycling is picked up
  • How to plan for future population growth
  • How we will manage the logistics of waste management in the most cost-effective way possible

Have your say

The first open house, and the online survey, will gather the public's feedback on current solid waste service levels. This information will be used in the development of the Master Plan, which we hope to present to Council in late 2025.

  • The Town has hired GHD Canada to create an online survey, host the open houses, and build the plan
  • The results of the first open house and the survey are used to help create the Solid Waste Master Plan
  • Open house: July 31, 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, NexSource Centre
  • Survey: Can't make the open house? Complete the online survey by August 15, 5:00 PM
  • Open house: Date TBD. This open house will present the draft of the Solid Waste Master Plan

    Hi RJ,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    How service levels are set
The frequency and duration of our current solid waste collection is determined by Council. The service levels that we have today were set by Council decisions in the past. They do their best to balance service levels with available budget.

    Its time for a review
This year, Council is reviewing our service levels and deciding if they need to be adjusted. To provide Council with good information for decision-making, the Town:

    1. Is completing a Solid Waste Master Plan this year
    2. Has collected Laker's feedback through the July 31, 2025 open house
    3. Is asking for Laker's feeback through the survey

How to make sure your feedback is included in the new plan

If you haven't already, we encourage you to complete the survey to ensure that your comments help inform the Solid Waste Master Plan.

Where will we post Council's next decisions?

The completed Solid Waste Master Plan and council's decisions will be posted on this page sometime in the fall after Council has reviewed the plan. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

    Sincerely,
    The Town Of Sylvan Lake
