October 2025 - Update

Construction is nearing completion. 47 Avenue between Highway 20 and Charles Industrial Way opens Friday, October 10, 2025.
What’s the latest?
- The intersection at 47 Avenue and Thevenaz Industrial Trail/Iron Gate Blvd will return to its pre-construction setup, with stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic
What about the traffic lights?
- The Town is waiting for Fortis to install traffic signals. Once the lights are installed, they will be tested and activated, replacing the stop signs. This will be take place some time in the future
- The trail in the area will remain gravel until 2026 construction season, as we wait for utility work by Fortis to be completed first. By waiting, we avoid potential damage that could occur during shallow utility installations
The road doesn’t quite look finished. Why?
- A second lift of asphalt will be installed in 2026. This is often a standard practice. We wait to install the final layer of asphalt to allow the road and surrounding areas to settle. This helps prevent cracks or uneven surfaces
- If any concrete removals are needed after winter season, they can be done without cutting into brand-new asphalt, keeping the final road surface smooth and clean
What about everything else?
- Landscaping in the area will be complete in 2026, following all other utility installations, final road work, etc.
- Once the intersection reopens, traffic signals along Highway 20 (on Herder Drive and 47 Ave) will return to pre-construction timing
