Phase 2: Letter to Residents

Letter outlining the details of pesticide application delivered to residents in the Lakeway Landing storm pond area.

February 01 → November 30 2023

Phase 1: Manual removal of goldfish and eggs

We proceeded with this phase due to a supply chain disruption that made Rotenone unavailable in 2023. Fortunately, the necessary supply was secured in 2024 for the final treatment phase.

2023 Tasks completed:

October 2023: Cleared overgrowth

  • Removed trees, brush, and cattails to improve access to the pond and remove hiding spots for goldfish

November 2023: Pumping the Pond

  • Lowered water levels
  • Netted goldfish from a boat and the shoreline to reduce the goldfish population
  • This work was extended due to warmer than expected weather and spring water refilling the pond

November 2023: Sludge and Silt Removal

  • Removed sludge, silt, and any remaining goldfish that may have burrowed into the mud after the pond froze over
  • This work greatly reduced the number of goldfish in the pond, however many remained and were visible after spring thaw 2024
