Reduced Parking Standards

This initiative lowers the minimum parking requirements for new apartment type housing developments.

Why?

  • To encourage the construction of additional apartment units by reducing development costs
  • To Make more efficient use of available land
  • To help streamline the development approval process by reducing the need for variances to parking


What's Next?

  • Administration will review recent apartment development applications that were granted parking variances and examine best practices in comparable municipalities
  • Amendment of the Land Use Bylaw, including a public hearing
  • The proposed bylaw changes are expected to be brought forward to Council for consideration in late spring/early summer 2025
