UNDERWAY: Roundabout Construction

Tasks

  • November 12 - 15: Rapid flashing beacons for the crosswalk 
  • Date TBD: Waiting for Fortis Alberta to complete their design so that streetlights along Memorial Trail can be installed
  • The speed limit remains 30km / hour along Memorial Trail until the streetlights are installed 

Completed Tasks

  • Started July 9: 
    • Detour roads on Memorial Trail and on Highway 20 open for traffic
    • Memorial Trail at Highway 20 right in right out only begins. Northbound Highway 20 westbound turn onto Memorial Drive closed
    • Township Road 384 access from Highway 20 closed 
  • July 1 - October 31: Detour and Intersection Construction
  • July 3 - 9: Closure of Memorial Trail (Highway 20 to Ryders Ridge Blvd) to install underground infrastructure
  • April - July: Relocation of shallow utilities and power poles (Fortis, Telus, and EQUS)
  • Detour road built  
  • April 25 - May 5: Tree clearing and fence removal/relocation 
  • February 14: Construction tender closed with four submissions received
  • February 26: Council awarded tender CP1901-02 to Border Paving. Not to exceed $5,780,000 excluding GST
  • February 27: Notice of tender award issued to Border Paving for $5,439,233.75 plus GST
  • March 18: Signed construction contract with Border Paving
  • March 25: Pre-construction meeting

  • Issue construction request for proposal
  • March 2024: Purchased land surrounding the roundabout

  • Request for proposals issued, and consulting engineering firm McElhanney awarded the design and construction-related services contract
  • Topographical survey and traffic counts
  • A geotechnical investigation
  • Shallow utility locates and hydrovaccing
  • The Province of Alberta completed the twinning of Highway 11 beside Sylvan which allows the Highway 20 and Memorial Trail roundabout project to begin
